Of Olympic Proportions

The Olympic Peninsula.

I whisked H away there for his birthday this year. A ride on a ferry weaving through the islands in the peninsula, with the Olympic Mountains in the distance and a night at a old castle- romance kindled indeed!

And of course the foodie in me sniffed out a place that made the *best ice-cream I’ve tasted. Ever! It was an old-fashioned parlor that we visited 4 times in 24 hours! The owner and his wife took an interest in us as well since he'd grown up on a hill-station in India. He came upto me and said, "Aap hindi baat karte ho?" And the delay it took my brain to translate that to english confused him to no end! (That along with my befuddled brain taking in the perfect Hindi coming from the Scottish looking stranger!) It was delightful hearing the stories he told of his childhood trysts.

Once I was there, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been there yet. Lovely people, good food and lots to see. Most of the towns along the coast are small and simple. Tourists to the North West don’t make it there as much as they should but that’s a good thing I guess. (The locals need a get-a-way too!)

2 Idyllic days later, I resolved to enjoy more of the places near my home. The fact that it’s chic (reducing carbon foot print and all) these days made it all the more enticing. (Not to mention the monies that could be potentially saved!)

Well I guess the resolution will have to wait a while ... H in the meanwhile has already planned out vacations for us this year to Mexico and Hawaii and is deciding between Nova Scotia & Whistler for the ski season!

* Do try the maple walnut or the date fig ice cream if you ever go. And try both the sundaes and the ice cream sodas .... heaven in a glass dish!
